Fractional controller services

A month-end close you can set a meeting by.

A fractional controller who owns your close, reviews the reconciliations, and oversees Kansas sales and use tax. Books closed by day six, every month, so the numbers are ready when you are.

If this is your month-end

  • The monthly numbers arrive around the 20th, if they arrive.
  • Nobody has looked at the reconciliations in a while.
  • A sales tax notice came in and nobody is sure who files what.

Or call (316) 555-0179. Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:30 pm.

Book a 13-week cash review

Three details. A partner calls within one business day to set a date and tell you which bank exports to bring.

Fixed fee $1,950, illustrative. Nothing is charged until we agree a date in writing.

How it runs

Fix the close, then hold it.

  1. 01

    The review

Simone reviews your last three closes, the reconciliations and the sales tax filings, and writes up what is behind.

  2. 02

    The catch-up

Reconciliations brought current and the chart of accounts cleaned so the reports mean something.

  3. 03

    The calendar

A fixed close calendar, day one to day six, run every month with your bookkeeper or ours.

The close calendar

  2. Day 2

    Reconciliations

Bank, card, loan and clearing accounts reconciled and reviewed.

  3. Day 3

    Accruals and inventory

  5. Day 5

    Review

Simone reviews the statements line by line against last month and the budget.

  6. Day 6

    Package out

Financial package to you, your CFO and your CPA, with notes on what moved.

Controller or CFO

When you need which.

Controller work makes the numbers right. CFO work uses them to decide what happens next. Most owners need the first before the second pays off.

A controller

When the close is late, the reconciliations are behind, or you do not trust the reports.

  • Month-end close by day six
  • Reconciliations reviewed
  • Sales and use tax oversight
  • Reporting your CPA can rely on

A CFO

When the numbers are right and the questions are about cash, the bank, a buyer or growth. See cash flow forecasting.

  • 13-week forecast and runway
  • Lender and board reporting
  • Scenarios for hires and capex
  • Exit and deal readiness

Sales and use tax

Kansas sales and use tax, overseen.

Kansas charges compensating use tax on taxable purchases when the seller did not charge Kansas tax, and it is easy to miss on a busy close. Our Kansas sales and use tax guide explains the rules.

  • Collected sales tax tied to each filing
  • Untaxed out-of-state purchases reviewed for use tax
  • Exemption certificates on file for exempt sales
  • Local rates checked where goods are delivered
  • Notices answered with the records attached

The detail

Your CPA files. We make the file right.

We do not prepare tax returns or audits: your CPA does. We keep the monthly books to a standard your CPA can rely on, so year-end is a review and not a rebuild.

Controller work is the foundation for everything else we do. A loan package or an exit readiness plan is only as good as the close underneath it.

Fractional controller questions

Not answered here? Call (316) 555-0179 and ask a partner.

Q01What does a fractional controller do?

Owns the month-end close, reviews the reconciliations and the statements, oversees sales and use tax, and delivers a financial package you can rely on every month.

Q02What does it cost?

From $2,900 a month in the Controller band, depending on entities and volume. See pricing.

Q03Do we still need a bookkeeper?

Usually yes. Your bookkeeper records the transactions; the controller makes sure the month is complete and right. We can work with yours or provide one.

Q04Do you file our sales tax returns?

We prepare and review them with your team and make sure the figures tie to the books. Your company remains responsible for filing.

Q05How fast can you fix a late close?

Most closes are on the day-six calendar within two to three months, depending on how far behind the reconciliations are.
